 COTF Core Principles Overview

The original Communities of the Future concept was evolved from 1989-92 based on the following principles.

 Shared Vision

There is a need to build shared vision for the future based on new trends brought about by change.

 Education is Power

Establish the concept of lifelong learning and develop new methods to restructure education to provide flexibility, adaptability and creativity.

 Community Consensus and the Future

Develop a decision making process that develops consensus among many citizens.

 Electronic Data Networks

Establish an electronic information network so that individuals and organizations can share information with one another simultaneously.

 The Future and World Class

Bring businesses together to develop systems to compete in a world economy through "associate" involvement and "associate" rewards and incentives.

 The Community as Family

Develop a new sense of community among diverse people by creating groups of "nonbloodline" families, a network of people who are not related to each other but care about each other as if they were family.

 Process Leadership

A new form of leadership able to build consensus and develop capacities for transformation in local communities.
