| WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT |
| The
profits from your purchase of kitty
litter helped Ed Lowe start his foundation

Those
little corn
flakes helped W.K. Kellogg start

| GENIUS AT WORK |
| Advancing age obliged Henry
Ford to retire from the active direction of his gigantic enterprises
in 1945. He died on April 7, 1947, in Dearborn.
Ford left a personal fortune estimated at $500
to $700 million, bequeathing the largest share
of his holdings in the Ford Motor Company to the
Ford Foundation, a nonprofit organization. Alfred
Nobel's will provided that the major portion of his $9 million
estate be set up as a fund to establish yearly
prizes for merit in physics, chemistry, medicine
and physiology, literature, and world peace. During his lifetime, Andrew
Carnegie gave
away over $350 million. At his death in 1919,
the last $30,000,000 was likewise given away to
foundations, charities and to pensioners. Carnegie
founded 2,509 libraries in the English-speaking
world. |
