An Explorer bar is a Web Accessory for Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 that provides interactive information while you browse the Internet. The New York Times Explorer bar requires the Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5 release for Microsoft® Windows® 95, 98, or NT®.

Installing The New York Times Explorer Bar

  1. Run this small setup program to install the Explorer bar on your computer.
  2. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
  3. Restart Internet Explorer.
  4. To make the bar appear, click the "View" menu, point to "Explorer Bar", and then click "New York Times on the Web Explorer Bar".

Note: You can also add The New York Times Explorer Bar button to Internet Explorer. This button will make the Explorer bar appear and disappear when you click it.

Adding the The New York Times Explorer Bar Button

  1. Click the Internet Explorer "View" menu, point to "Toolbars", and then click "Customize".
  2. Click The New York Times Explorer Bar in the list of available buttons on the left side of the "Customize Toolbar " dialog box. You may need to use the scroll bar to find it.
  3. Click "Add" in the middle of the dialog box.
  4. After The New York Times Explorer Bar appears in the list of current buttons on the right, click it. Then use "Move Up" or "Move Down" to position the button where you want it to appear on the toolbar.
  5. When finished, click "Close".
